Packaged Terminal Air Conditioners and Heat Pumps

Packaged Terminal Air Conditioners and Heat Pumps
Packaged terminal air conditioners (PTAC) and packaged terminal heat pumps (PTHP) provide cooling and heating from a single unit for controlling the climate in small, enclosed spaces. They\'re oriented horizontally and sized to fit below windows to take up minimal space within a room, making them a common choice for hotel rooms, multi-unit buildings, and room additions. These self-contained heating and cooling units have a built-in compressor and fit into a cutout on an exterior wall, so there\'s no need for ducts, external wiring, or refrigerant lines. They are typically installed into an insulated wall sleeve and can be controlled using onboard controls or a compatible wall-mounted thermostat. PTACs have an auxiliary electric heater to supply heat. PTHPs also have an auxiliary electric heater but can use their heat pump for energy-efficient heating when outdoor temperatures don\'t fall below freezing.
