These single-lip rotary shaft seals retain oil and have a rubber-enclosed metal case for fitting to a bore housing with a rough surface. The rubber conforms to the rough bore to ensure a tight fit. The sealing lip presses against the shaft to prevent oil from leaking out during operation. Single-lip seals can operate at higher speeds than dual-lip seals.
