Fast-cutting carbide corner-radius end mills for cutting steel and cast iron have a variable helix angle (sometimes called variable pitch) that minimizes harmonics and chatter to allow for higher cutting speeds than standard helix mills. Carbide end mills provide excellent wear and heat resistance and are harder than high-speed steel or cobalt. AlTiCrN coating (aluminum titanium chromium nitride) is optimized for milling stainless steel and titanium. It has high abrasion and heat resistance for dry and semi-dry high-speed milling, a coating oxidation temperature of 1100° C, and a coating hardness of 3500 HV. Corner-radius end mills create a flat-bottomed groove with slightly rounded inside corners in milling applications that require a specific radius.
