Fast-cutting carbide corner-radius end mills for cutting stainless steel and super alloys (such as titanium, nickel, and cobalt) have a variable helix angle (sometimes called variable pitch) that minimizes harmonics and chatter to allow for higher cutting speeds than standard helix mills. Carbide end mills provide excellent wear and heat resistance and are harder than high-speed steel or cobalt. TiAlN coating (titanium aluminum nitride) withstands high temperatures for use at high speeds and resists cracks and oxidation better than TiN or TiCN coatings. It is suitable for milling heat-resistant alloys, cast iron, steel, and stainless steel, and has a coating oxidation temperature of 800° C and a coating hardness of 2800 HV.
