Fast-cutting carbide ball end mills for cutting stainless steel and super alloys (such as titanium, nickel, and cobalt) have a variable helix angle (sometimes called variable pitch) that minimizes harmonics and chatter to allow for higher cutting speeds than standard helix mills. Carbide end mills provide excellent wear and heat resistance and are harder than high-speed steel or cobalt. GMX-35 coating protects against wear in high-speed milling and dry machining applications. It is harder and resists high heat better than TiAlN and ZrN coatings. Ball-nose end mills create round-bottomed grooves and slots and mills complex shapes that don't have sharp corners. Center-cutting end mills cut on the end and sides of the mill and are used for plunging, ramping, and machining bottom surfaces.
