Straight-flute reamers are the most commonly used style of reamer. Straight-flute reamers are stronger than spiral-flute reamers and push chips forward, making them best for reaming through holes. High Speed Steel reamers offer good wear resistance, have some flexibility, and can absorb some shock and vibration. Bright (Uncoated) tools can be resharpened and are a good choice for use on soft materials, such as aluminum and low-carbon steel. Straight shanks have the same diameter along their length. They install in the chuck of a drill press or similar machining tool. Right Hand reamers cut when rotated counterclockwise, pushing chips forward in the cutting direction, and are most often used for reaming through holes.
