Miniature hand taps create precision threads from sizes #00-90 to #000-120 in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. High Speed Steel taps offer good wear resistance, have some flexibility, and can absorb some shock and vibration. Bright (Uncoated) tools can be resharpened and are a good choice for use on soft materials, such as aluminum and low-carbon steel. Square shanks have a square top end to the shank, allowing them to fit hand tap wrenches or spanners. Plug taps have 3 to 5 tapered threads. Sometimes called second taps, they create threads in through holes or blind holes that are deep enough to have 3 to 5 incomplete threads. Right Hand threads are the most common and run clockwise, pointing up and to the right.
