This carbide square end mill is optimized for cutting steel and cast iron. Carbide end mills provide excellent wear and heat resistance and are harder than high-speed steel or cobalt. TiAlN coating (titanium aluminum nitride) withstands high temperatures for use at high speeds and resists cracks and oxidation better than TiN or TiCN coatings. It is suitable for milling heat-resistant alloys, cast iron, steel, and stainless steel, and has a coating oxidation temperature of 800° C and a coating hardness of 2800 HV. Square end mills cut flat-bottomed grooves with 90° inside corners. They're also used for counterboring, side and face milling, and milling square shoulders.
