These bevel gears have a metric pitch and teeth that curve across their pitch, and only pair with gears or pinions of the opposite tooth direction. Spiral teeth mesh gradually and stay in contact longer than straight-cut teeth, producing less noise and vibration and making them suitable for high-speed and high-torque applications. However, they create axial thrust and may require thrust bearings to offset the force. Bevel gears are paired with gears with identical pitch modules but have more or fewer teeth to maintain the required gear ratio.
